How do I check and format html code used for the projects website ?

For the maintainer of the website or others, who like to contribute html code, please check your html code for confirmness to the HTML 4.01 standard

There are several tools available in the internet for validation, for example under http://validator.w3.org, but for this project we are using the cygwin port of tidy

See the steps for validating your html code (Thanks to Robert Collins]

1) Valid the html against it's DTD.

$tidy -quiet <file> >/dev/null

2) IF and only if it validates ok, run it through a pretty printer like html tidy.

$tidy -im <file>
